The New Year is just around the corner and, as we say goodbye to year 2012, we cannot help but have a look back at all the work we've done.
Thanks to you, our readers, it's been a successful year for us at GSMArena.com. This year you pushed our website up in the list of the Top 400 websites globally (currently at the 389th spot), according to the independent internet statistics Alexa.com. We cannot thank you enough for that.
Overall, this year we churned out more than 1650 news articles, more than 2230 blog posts and a total of 167 reviews.
Our blog has been on the rise, coming up in leaps and bounds in the past 12 months. Our coverage there included regular tech news in all sorts of fields but, most importantly, we've been spicing it up with exclusive features and articles, which you seem to like a lot (such as our regular phone unboxings and battery tests).
We kept expanding our presence on Facebook, already closing in on 300,000 likes (a nearly three-fold increase this year alone).
Our phone reviewing routine saw some changes too. We made the Sunlight legibility test a part of our review routine. We also started doing even more reviews of US-only phones in an effort to be even more helpful to our US friends. Most recently we started our series of articles dedicated to helping you set up your newly purchased smartphone. Android went first, but iOS fans should expect to get the same treatment in the first days of the New Year.
The new year will hopefully be off to a good start too with two of the major industry events just around the corner. In 2013 we will have our second live coverage from the Consumer Electronics Show in the US (starting January 8) and a couple of months later, we'll traditionally report live from the Mobile World Congress (starting February 25).
Once again, thank you so much for your incredible support in 2012, we have some great plans for 2013 and we hope you will stick around to see what we will be up to.
Happy New Year to you and your loved ones, we wish you peace, prosperity and happiness. Cheers!

Some Actor and actress Arbaaz khan, Malaika Arora khan,Bipashu Basu,Sohail khan,Boney Kapoor,David Dhawan, and sallu ex girl friend Sanggeta and many more celebrets were present at Sallu Miya's birthday party.
Happy Birthday! Salman Khan's big moments from 2012
India,
Dec. 26 -- Bollywood's dabangg actor Salman Khan turns 47 today! We all
would agree that this year has been fairly good for the actor and as he
celebrates his birthday today, we take you through his ten best moments
from 2012. Salman Khan's Ek Tha Tiger creates history, crosses Rs. 200
crore
Ek
Tha Tiger had not only opened to packed houses, the movie had set new
records on the day 1 of its release. The Salman-Katrina starrer had
broken the first day records of Hrithik's Agneepath and SRK's RA.One.
After
making the fastest Rs. 100 cr at the Indian box office, Salman Khan's
Ek Tha Tiger has reached another milestone. The film has crossed Rs. 200
cr mark after factoring in domestic as well as overseas BO. In India,
The film collected Rs. 7 cr.
"EkThaTiger
India + Overseas combined biz *after 2nd Weekend* is Rs. 210 cr +. ALL
TIME BLOCKBUSTER," says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
The
film has garnered Rs. 175 cr in India. "India Rankings TOP 3:- No 1 -
#3Idiots [202 cr nett], No 2 - #EkThaTiger [175 cr nett, still
counting], No 3 - #Bodyguard [148 cr nett]," adds Adarsh.
Salman Khan's Dabangg 2 crosses 60 crore mark
Salman
Khan's Dabangg 2 opened to a big start on Friday and it's continued to
fare well at the box office despite the winter chills up north. Just
three days later, the film's already earned over 60 crores.
The
film fetched an excellent start on Friday earning 21.10 crore, it
dipped on Saturday with 19.06 crore, but witnessed a massive growth on
Sunday, earning approximately 24-25 crores (estimates; final total could
vary).
Business
was also affected in North India due to the cold wave. Elsewhere, the
film has set new records. Overall, the 3-day total has been simply
fantastic. The film collected approximately Rs. 64 crore to Rs. 65 crore
nett in its opening weekend.
When
almost every contemporary of his is trying to consolidate his place in
the 100 crore club, Salman Khan is in a different zone altogether. While
leading the pack in the century club with as many as four films already
there, he is eyeing the much coveted 200 crore club with Dabangg 2.
"100
crore is passe now, not just for him but every superstar worth his
salt. Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and now even Ranbir
Kapoor has cracked it. Aamir anyway started it all. So for how long can
one continue to bask in the glory of something which is fast becoming a
trend and is almost a rule than being an exception. The new 'mantra' is
200 crore. Only Aamir is sitting pretty there after 3 Idiots. Now Salman
is the one who can take a possible shot at that mark", comments an
insider.
BIGG BOSS 6: Salman Khan becomes highest paid TV actor
No
one can deny his star power on the big screen. But even as Salman Khan
returns for the third consecutive season of Bigg Boss today, we hear
that his pay packet for the small screen too has gone up significantly.
After
taking home Rs. 2.8 - Rs. 3 crore per episode last year, the actor will
pocket a cool Rs. 3.8 to Rs. 4 crore per episode this time around. The
earlier season had seen Sanjay Dutt play co-host as Salman was either
busy shooting for Ek Tha Tiger or coping with his illness. This time,
however, the star will be present from the start to finish and is being
paid big bucks for this commitment.
Incidentally, this also makes Salman the highest-paid Bollywood actor on the tube, followed by Aamir Khan (Satyamev Jayate,
Rs.
3 crore per episode), Shah Rukh Khan (Total Wipeout: Zor Ka Jhatka, Rs.
2 crore per episode), Hrithik Roshan (Just Dance, Rs. 2 crore per
episode), and Akshay Kumar (Khatron Ke Khiladi season four, Rs. 1.5
crore per episode). Amitabh Bachchan, though, is in a different league
altogether. He has signed a whopping deal of Rs. 100 crore for three
seasons of Kaun Banega Crorepati.
Salman Khan tops tax payers list
With
Ek Tha Tiger touching a staggering Rs. 200 crores mark, Salman Khan has
become the biggest star in Bollywood this year. While on the other
hand, he has also emerged as the highest taxpayer in Bollywood, shelling
out a whopping Rs. 8 crores for the September quarter.
The
47 year old actor surpassed the rest of the industry by paying a sum of
Rs. 8 crores as advance tax in July-September this year, as compared to
Rs. 5. crores in the same period last year.
While
compared to Salman, other celebs have been more modest (Katrina Kaif-
Rs. 2.6 crores, SRK-5 crores, Akshay Kumar- Rs. 7.5 crores), a marked
increase from last year. However, Aamir Khan has notched a dip with just
Rs. 3.25 crores as compared to Rs. 4.50 crores last year.
Salman Khan to buy new house, moves out of Galaxy apartments
Almost
every Bollywood actor who makes a name for himself lives in a plush
bungalow or at least a swanky apartment in Mumbai. All this while,
superstar Salman Khan has been an exception to this rule. Salman has
always lived with his family in his childhood home at Galaxy Apartments
on Bandstand, Bandra. And were it not for the fans always waiting
outside to catch a glimpse of the star, the modest Galaxy does not even
come across as a Bollywood actor's residence.
But
now, all that is set to change as the 46-year-old actor is set to move
out of Galaxy in a year's time. "I have stayed here for as long as I
could. Now I may stay here only for another year. We have a property,
which we are constructing; that's where I will move," says Salman,
without mentioning any details of his future address.
Salman Khan joins Facebook
After
entertaining us with his tweets on Twitter, Salman Khan has now joined
one of the most popular social networking sites- Facebook. The actor
launched his official Facebook page and would be using this medium as
his preferred platform to connect. Salman treated his fans to exclusive
personal pictures and a preview of his much-awaited upcoming chain of
'Being Human' clothing stores.
Commenting
on the launch of his official Facebook page, Salman Khan said, "To the
many who asked me to join Facebook, lo main aa gaya. And to the few
running fake sites, the party's over."
Salman Khan signs Sajid Nadiadwala's next with a whopping sum of Rs. 150 crore
Sajid
Nadiadwala's upcoming action film with the star to be shot in the UK
capital with a whopping budget of around Rs. 150 crore.
Over
the past few years, Salman Khan has turned several places into
veritable battle fields - Cuba and Dublin for Ek Tha Tiger; and closer
home, north India's hinterlands for the Dabangg series; and the streets
of Mumbai for Wanted (2008). Now, the latest destination is London,
thanks to producer Sajid Nadiadwala's directorial debut, Kick.
Sajid's
love for London as a location is well known, with his last two
productions - Housefull (2010) and Housefull 2 - shot there. Now, he's
all set to shoot Kick, besides the next Housefull installment, there. "I
love shooting in London. The fact that I am back to shoot a third and a
fourth film here is proof of that," he says.
Salman Khan to make films under Being Human banner
Next
on Salman's agenda is to help the foundation through his films. Salman
Khan Being Human Productions made the 2011 film, Chillar Party. He now
plans to produce Hindi remakes of two Marathi hits - Shikshanachya
Aaicha Gho (2010) and Me Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy (2009). An insider
tells us, "Salman wants to produce the remakes under the foundation's
banner. He hasn't had the time to plan things out yet, but it's in the
pipeline."
Salman Khan went to US for a health check
Salman
Khan underwent a surgery for trigeminal neuralgia in August 2011. The
super star flew to US to get the five-hour long procedure done. It took
him a couple of weeks to bounce back.
After
a year and four months the actor is set to fly back to US again but
this time for a regular health check up, a daily has reported.
"Salman's
condition needs him to undergo regular check ups. It's nothing serious.
Just a routine follow up. He is fit and will start shooting Sohail's
film soon," the daily quotes a source as saying.
Salman Khan finds inner peace
This
year has been peaceful for Salman as far as controversies are
concerned. The actor was infact spotted making peace with other
co-stars. Oflate, Salman Khan is spotted hanging out with Abhishek
Bachchan and two had a warm chat at a recent party, even though
Aishwarya was around. Looks like there is no tension between them
anymore!
Salman
was also seen spending quality time with filmmaker Karan Johar
recently. The two were spotted sticking to eachother almost all the time
at recently held Dabangg 2 premiere, reports Mid-Day.
A
source told Mid-Day, "Karan stuck like glue to Salman. They remained
inseparable throughout. It was shocking for many guests at the party
considering that Karan is known to be a close friend of Salman's
archrival Shah Rukh Khan."

Salman's birthday & Dabangg 2's success party at Khan household
It's been a terrific year for the Tiger. Salman Khan had a blockbuster Ek Tha Tiger earlier this year during Eid. Now he's all set to deliver a super-blockbuster at year-end. Early indications are that Dabangg 2 would not only exceed the box office profits of Dabangg and Ek Tha Tiger, it would probably become one of the biggest hits of Salman's career.
Understandably there is an air of heightened jubilation in the Khan household, more so since its Salman's 47th birthday on 27th December.
One got to know from a source very close to Salman that a huge success party is being planned.
Says the source, "The Khan parivar is in the mood for celebration. Salman's had a terrific year. And though some ugly incidents from the past were raised, the family has never felt more unified and at peace with Salman's success. Salman too is in a happy space. And it's not just Salman. Arbaaz has proven himself as a director. He has let the world know there's more to him than just being a star-brother. As a family, the Khans would like to stand together for once and show the world what a wonderful year it has been for them."
While details of the bash are being worked out, Arbaaz admitted there was a celebration on the anvil. "With Salman bhai's birthday around the corner and Dabangg 2 opening the way it has, it does seem like the right time to celebrate. See, everyone expected Dabangg 2 to open very well, what with the franchise still fresh in the audiences' minds and the Christmas window open to us on our release. But I feel good when people tell me they're enjoying Dabangg 2 even more than Dabangg, for me, that's the real triumph. It proves I've been able to carry the brand forward on my own steam."
Arbaaz admits for the first time, that he had to undergo a long period of stress to move the Dabangg franchise forward. "I didn't want people to say I messed up the Dabangg brand or that I didn't add anything new to it. We spent around 6 months on the script. And then I shot the actual film for 100 days which is far less than what other recent Salman films took to shoot. But I didn't compromise in any way. The film doesn't like a hurried cut-and-paste job."
Arbaaz has only one regret, "We should have taken Salman bhai to more cities for promotion. He went to Hyderabad three days before release. And the box office numbers there show that his visit made a difference."
Without taking away from Abhinav Kashyap's triumph in Dabangg, Arbaaz feels as the producer he had much to contribute to the first film. "I didn't come to Dabangg 2 as a novice. I was an integral part of the filmmaking team in Dabangg. Salman and I worked really hard on bringing massy elements into the plot. Abhinav was against Salman doing lip-sync songs. But we insisted and to his credit, Abhinav saw our point of view and rewrote the scenes accordingly. Now in Dabangg 2 it's those massy elements that I've carried forward."
In the meanwhile one hears Salman may direct the next Dabangg film while Arbaaz may go on to direct another film altogether.
Says Arbaaz, "These are notions which we're exploring. At the moment we're focusing on enjoying the success of Dabangg 2. It was never about just adding a '2' to Dabangg. And we're definitely in the mood for celebration."

U.S. retailers scramble after lackluster holiday sales
While chains like Wal-Mart Stores Inc and Gap Inc are thought to have done well, analysts expect much less from the likes of book seller Barnes & Noble Inc and department store chain J. C. Penney Co.
Growth was always expected to slow this season, though an improving employment picture and rising home values had helped mitigate the worst fears. But then Superstorm Sandy hit the East Coast in late October, mild weather blunted sales of winter clothing and rising concern about the "fiscal cliff" became more of a reality, dragging down already pessimistic forecasts.
"The broad brush was Christmas wasn't all that merry for retailers, and you have to ask what those margins look like if the top line didn't meet their expectations," said Kim Forrest, senior equity research analyst at Fort Pitt Capital Group.
The latest sign of trouble came from MasterCard Advisors Spending Pulse, which reported holiday-related sales rose 0.7 percent from October 28 through December 24, compared with a 2 percent increase last year.
The preliminary estimate from SpendingPulse was in line with other estimates showing weak growth during the holiday season, when retailers can book about 30 percent of annual sales -- and in many cases, half of their profits.
"It has been a very uneven industry performance, probably at least for the last year, and that certainly continued into the holiday season," said Michael Niemira, chief economist at the International Council of Shopping Centers, in an interview with Reuters Insider.
The latest holiday season could end up the weakest since 2008, during the last recession, when sales actually declined. The National Retail Federation had previously predicted 4.l percent sales growth this year, versus a 5.6 percent increase a year earlier.
Markets reacted sharply to the gloomy outlook.
The S&P retail index fell 1.8 percent in midday trading Wednesday, and 16 of the top 20 decliners in the broader S&P 500 were retailers or consumer brands.
INVENTORY CRUSH
To be sure, the actual percentage change in holiday sales can differ substantially, depending on which group is composing the figure. SpendingPulse and the National Retail Federation, for example, look at different categories, which can cause some variation in their forecasts.
Regardless of how bad the figure is, one concern for retailers is that soft sales will mean an excess of inventory that will force some to slash prices.
Among other brands, Barnes & Noble offered 50 percent discounts in stores via email promotions on Wednesday, while Ann Inc had half-off at its Loft stores, and Bloomingdale's promoted discounts of up to 75 percent in some cases.
Even in a good year, retailers would have offered discounts to lure customers, but some suggest a weak year has now forced their hands.
"Retailers are no longer chasing sales, they are chasing inventory management. That means the discounts that they would have liked to be at 50-60 (percent) off have climbed to 75 to even 80 (percent) off," said Marshall Cohen, chief industry analyst at The NPD Group.
Erica Ayala, 31, a mother of four who lives in New York's Harlem neighborhood, waited until the day after Christmas to shop for that very reason, saving more than $150 on kids' clothes alone at Gap's Old Navy chain.
"You can't go wrong with that," she said.
SANDY AND CLIFF
A variety of factors were thought to be at fault for the weak season, starting with Superstorm Sandy, which depressed sales in the Northeast in late October and early November.
Sales recovered in the second part of November, with early hours and promotions helping drive traffic during the "Black Friday" weekend after Thanksgiving, analysts said.
But there was a deep lull in early December as a winter storm in parts of the United States may have limited sales, said Michael McNamara, vice president of research and analysis at MasterCard SpendingPulse.
On top of that, there were fears that taxes will rise in the new year if Washington cannot negotiate a solution to the end-of-year "fiscal cliff" dilemma.
A recent Ipsos poll for Reuters found that only 17 percent of shoppers were spending less due to cliff fears, though analysts said the damage was still done.
"The government usually does not have a role in holidays but this year they did. They got right in the midst of it, the timing couldn't have been any worse," NPD's Cohen said.
BRIGHT SPOTS
One bright spot has been online sales, which continue to grow at a faster pace.
On Christmas Day, online sales jumped 22.4 percent, outpacing the 16.4 percent increase in 2011, according to IBM Digital Analytics Benchmark, which tracks more than 1 million e-commerce transactions a day from 500 U.S. retailers.
Whether online or off, some of the winning retailers were expected to be Wal-Mart, which attracted shoppers with early deals on the night of Thanksgiving and kept its focus on value, and apparel chains like Gap Inc, whose bright sweaters were successful, according to analysts.
Toys sold well, and hot items that were harder to find later in the season included certain Mattel Inc Barbie dolls and LeapFrog Enterprises Inc's LeapPad2 tablet computer, according to B. Riley Caris analyst Linda Bolton Weiser.
For retailers who have struggled, analysts said all hope was not lost. Many have fiscal quarters that end in January, so they still have time to benefit from a post-Christmas rebound. Because Christmas fell on a Tuesday, some said they could even see a boost this week from people who have extra time off.
"There's still a little bit more time to go until the holiday season is officially over," Morningstar analyst Peter Wahlstrom said.

Samsung Electronics seeks U.S. sales ban on some Ericsson products
The action taken on Friday by the world's top smartphone maker, which accused Ericsson of breaching seven of its patents, came after Ericsson requested an ITC U.S. import ban on Samsung products and sued the South Korean firm for patent infringement.
"We have sought to negotiate with Ericsson in good faith. However, Ericsson has proven unwilling to continue such negotiations by making unreasonable claims, which it is now trying to enforce in court," Samsung Electronics said in a statement.
"The accused Ericsson products include telecommunications networking equipment, such as base stations," Samsung said.
With Ericsson suffering a big drop in sales at its network unit, down 17 percent in the third quarter, it is turning to the courts to maintain its patent income, part of a wider trend where big technology names are fiercely protecting intellectual property as global sales of tablets and smartphones boom.
Ericsson is facing a growing challenge from Samsung Electronics, a smaller player in the network equipment market.
"I'm sure that at this point, no one in the industry would underestimate Samsung's ability to become a significant player, if not the leader, in a new segment of the overall market for telecommunications hardware," Florian Mueller, a patent expert, said in a blog posting on Monday.
"This certainly adds a more strategic dimension to the Ericsson-Samsung dispute."
Samsung Electronics and its arch smartphone rival Apple Inc have been also locked in patent disputes in at least 10 countries as they vie to dominate the mobile market and win over customers with their latest gadgets.
The European Commission on Friday charged Samsung Electronics with abusing its dominant position in seeking to bar rival Apple from using a patent deemed essential to mobile phone use.
Samsung Electronics shares were trading up 1.3 percent, outperforming the wider market's 0.7 percent gain as of 0037 GMT.

Mishap at the airport leaves Sallu in splits
Sallu Miya was set to perform at the hitex ground in Hyderabad on Sunday. He took the 9:30am flight from Mumbai and was there by noon.
I got a news through Masala.com Salman's team went berserk on noticing that the bags were interchanged and later, on finding out that the confused woman had left the airport. Of course, they didn't breathe a word to Salman at that time! Sources say, "The airport authorities tried everything possible when they found out how important the bag was." It was on finally going through her belongings that they found her contact details and informed her of the mix-up. Within a couple of hours she returned with the bag intact and the situation was under control.
